Background Protection for CCTV Systems CCTV systems are used in all sectors for access control and facility monitoring. In the following, surgical security methods will be described which meet the high availability requirements of CCTV systems. A CCTV system consists of at least one camera, one monitor and a suitable video transmission system. Remotely controlled camera stations are often equipped with a pan/tilt head that allows the operator to adjust the position of each and the appearance of the station. In the simplest case, the transmission line between the receiver box and the monitor is coaxial or balanced two-wire. Coaxial cables are used for unbalanced transmission, in other words, the video signal is transmitted through the core of the coaxial cable (the inner conductor).

The voltage supply cables are often routed separately. In the case of IP cameras, however, a single cable is used for video signal transmission and for voltage supply. If this is not possible, the camera cable must be routed into a metal tube and connected to the mast. In this case, safety devices do not have to be installed in the junction box if the cable length does not exceed a few meters. The lightning equipotential connection must be established at the entrance point into the building for all the cables mentioned above which are rusted from the junction box in the mast to a building with an external lightning protection system. If the cameras are placed on the exterior facade of a building, you should make sure that the camera is at a safe level or is protected from direct lightning strikes through the air termination system. A building without an external lightning protection system If buildings are not equipped with an external lightning protection system, the risk resulting from a lightning strike directly or near the building is considered low and acceptable.
